A friend from France just sent me a message after finishing his first day on the Camino Francés. Last year on the Via Podiensis, I saw a grand total of six Americans, four of whom I saw the very first evening. My friend said half the guests at his gîte last night were American, and I told him I wasn’t surprised. Most of my fellow countrymen believe there’s only one Camino de Santiago, and it starts in Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port.
